OPERATIONAL CHALLENGE

The facility’s wastewater treatment plant was at risk of being shut down due to not meeting local publicly owned treatment works (POTW) compliance standards.

The plant was not able to implement a treatment approach with the existing equipment to remove the hazardous material from the waste stream. Failure to comply would result in loss of the plant’s POTW permit.

CHEMICAL SOLUTION

Kroff Chemical Company, Inc. engineered a solution using KR-B3070 coagulant and KR-F1420 polymer that was based on the company’s expertise in the meat processing industry, both chemically and mechanically.

By providing a cleaner waste stream to the local POTW, the solution solved the problem and supported the plant’s long-term production goals.

BOTTOM-LINE RESULTS

Loss of the plant’s POTW permit would have caused the facility to shut down and suspend 320 jobs.

The treatment approach Kroff implemented was able to effectively remove waste solids so the waste stream was approved to be discharged.

The plant can now produce at a faster rate without the fear of the local POTW shutting the facility down.
