E-Coat Waste Treatment Application
CLIENT PROFILE:
E-Coat Waste Treatment Application
A leading parts coating plant providing environmentally sound and cost-effective solutions to a wide variety of industries, including agriculture, appliance, automotive, computer, construction equipment, electrical, furniture, industrial equipment, recreational, and truck and bus. The plant’s electro-coat (e-coat) systems are designed for high-volume production coating with immersion tanks and spray chambers for cleaning and pretreatment.
CASE STUDY:
OPERATIONAL CHALLENGE
Various cleaners, iron and zinc phosphates, alodines and sealers are used to pre-treat and coat weldments, assemblies and stampings made of substrates such as steel, cast iron, aluminum, magnesium and galvanealed sheet metal. The plant’s waste treatment program was unable to process more than 200 gallons of cleaner per day, creating a serious bottleneck in operations. Prior to engaging Kroff, the company was forced to ship cleaners off-site to keep up with production.
CHEMICAL SOLUTION
Kroff Chemical Company, Inc. redesigned the chemical waste treatment program to increase the plant’s ability to treat cleaners within its waste treatment system. Kroff’s new program enables the plant to process 500 gallons of cleaner per hour, a feat that has never before been achieved at the facility.
BOTTOM-LINE RESULTS
As a direct result of Kroff’s chemical treatment program, the plant no longer experiences bottlenecks in waste treatment, which were causing the plant to interrupt production and outsource treatment.
Kroff’s custom program has saved the plant $30,000 annually – in addition to production losses.
