OPERATIONAL CHALLENGE

The goal of updating water treatment services at the company involved a four-tier strategy: improve worker safety through less chemical handling and healthier water systems; conserve energy, including natural gas and electricity; enhance environmental safety by conserving water and minimizing chemical use; and control costs through labor efficiencies and reduced spending on chemicals.

CHEMICAL SOLUTION

Kroff Chemical Company, Inc. engineered a chemical treatment program to eliminate operator handling of biocides and reduce legionella counts in cooling towers, which lessens water corrosion rates and leads to cleaner chillers and reduced energy consumption. Kroff Chemical also reduced the amount of chemicals consumed.

BOTTOM-LINE RESULTS

As a direct result of Kroff’s chemical treatment program, the plant achieved 100-percent negative legionella results and eliminated operator chemical handling. The program ensures clean heat exchange surfaces in chillers; eliminates biofouling, scaling, or corrosion; and minimizes chemical consumption. Overall, the program provides a water treatment cost savings of 50 percent.
